Impulsive decisions are often made quickly.
Yet, the inverse isn’t necessarily true.
Quick decisions aren’t necessarily impulsive.
What separates these two different decisions, is how much your future, level-headed self is involved.
An impulsive decision is made quickly, without regard for how you might feel about it later, due to how strongly you feel about it now.
One way to make better decisions is to pause for a few moments to check in with future you. If you’re about to make a fast decision about something, pause and think of your future self in the most calm and logical way possible. Assess the worst case and weigh the risks.
This doesn’t guarantee you’ll make the right decision but those few extra moments could wind up saving you a lot of money, time, and frustration.
